Yearly Events
Three major events are scheduled throughout the year for the benefit of members and their invited guests. All events last 2-3 hours. Following is a summary of each event.
Start times are listed right below the event title. Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes early for registration and seating selection.
Potluck Dinner and Bingo Night
Starts at 6 P.M.
In the spring, usually late April or May, the Club sponsors a Potluck Dinner with Bingo within the TI auditorium. The winning prizes are 'white elephant' gifts donated by members or guests that are wrapped or bagged casually. The club provides a complementary meat entrée and drinks and club members volunteer to bring various multi-servings side dishes -- salads, vegetables, desserts. The meal is followed by many games of standard bingo whereby everyone wins at least one or more gifts that are passed out randomly by volunteers. With the depletion of the white elephant gifts, members and guest can either leave or stay to play "super-prizes" bingo, requiring a prepay donation for each 'marked' card in order to continue playing for valuable prizes (all in plain sight; select at will; includes gift cards) donated by members or purchased by the club. The last game for the grand prize is a blackout, i.e., winner covers all numbers. Approximately 70 members and guests have attended in the past. Central planning and coordination is co-handled between Ralph and Estella Garcia at 281-980-2702.
TI Retiree Evening (BBQ)
Starts at 6:30 P.M.
In the fall, usually late September, the Club organizes the TI Retiree Evening, sponsored in full by Texas Instruments in recognition of the contribution its retirees had on the past success of TI. Over 600 invitations are mailed in early September with instructions to RSVP soon. The meal is a buffet, the entrée being delicious bar-b-que, served within the TI cafeteria. A keynote speaker from TI covers some operational aspect of TI. Excellent entertainment (singer, ensemble, band) follows the meal. As an aside, the TI Retiree Club promotes its benefits -- monthly luncheons, occasional speakers, frequent day trips, bimonthly newsletter-to non-members. Approximately 180 invitees have attended in the past. Central planning and coordination is by Bob Gruber at 713-772-9296.
Christmas Party
Starts at 6:30 P.M.
Around mid-December the Club holds its annual Christmas Party, a semi-formal, end-of-year event, at a nice banquet facility within Houston or surrounding. Past events were held at Vargo's and the Texas Safari Ranch in Richmond. Upon entry, a Christmas picture in front of a tall decorated tree is offered (and later mailed) before a visit to the hors d'oeurves table. Then a four-course dinner is served to each table (rounds of 8) followed by entertainment, usually a good, hired DJ spinning tracks requested by members. The DJ plays a wide variety of songs, including favorites from the 50's-60's-70's. Couples dancing, line dancing, socializing, jokes, festive atmosphere…all help make the Christmas Party the highpoint of the year. Approximately 70 members and guests have attended in the past. Central planning and reservations are handled by Israel Morales at 281-498-2219.
