Yearly Events

Three major events are scheduled throughout the year for the benefit of members and their invited guests. All events last 2-3 hours. Following is a summary of each event.

Start times are listed right below the event title. Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes early for registration and seating selection.

Snacks and Bingo Night

Starts at 6:30 P.M.

In the spring, usually late April, the Club sponsors a WHITE ELEPHANT BINGO along with SNACKS for the enjoyment of the members who participate. The cost for SNACKS AND BINGO will be $3.00 per member or guest, preferably paid in advance. The snacks will consist of assorted vegetables, assorted fruits, a variety of crackers and cheese, dessert and coffee, assorted creamers, tea and water. Unlike previous years, members do not have to worry about bringing side orders of food. But, they are asked to bring 2-3 white elephant gifts wrapped or bagged casually as "prizes" to be given away during the WHITE ELEPHANT BINGO where play continues until everyone wins one or more prizes. For 2011 we will either play for or raffle some valuable prizes as part of the White Elephant Bingo. After the WHITE ELEPHANT BINGO members have the option to leave or stay for the SPECIAL BINGO portion.

SPECIAL BINGO for Super Prizes requires a $5.00 donation per card. The games are regular bingo except the last game for the grand prize is a blackout, i.e., winner covers all numbers. The estimated total value of the prizes is around $300. In the past we have given away portable phones, coffee pots, griddles, shredders, shop vacuum cleaner and other kitchen or household goods along with different value gift cards up to $50. The number of members and guests participating has increased every year, and we expect this year will be no different. Central planning and reservations were handled by past president Ralph (& Estella) Garcia from 2008 - 2011 and in 2012 by Tony & Susan Leigh.

TI Retiree Evening (BBQ)

Starts at 6:30 P.M.

In the fall, usually late September, the Club organizes the TI Retiree Evening, sponsored in full by Texas Instruments in recognition of the contribution its retirees had on the past success of TI. Over 600 invitations are mailed in early September with instructions to RSVP soon. The meal is a buffet, the entrée being delicious bar-b-que, served within the TI cafeteria. A keynote speaker from TI covers some operational aspect of TI. Excellent entertainment (singer, ensemble, band) follows the meal. As an aside, the TI Retiree Club promotes its benefits to non-members present -- monthly luncheons, occasional speakers, frequent day trips, and a bimonthly newsletter. Approximately 180 invitees have attended in the past. Central planning and coordination is by Bob Gruber.

Christmas Party

Starts at 6:30 P.M.

Around mid-December the Club holds its annual Christmas Party, a semi-formal, end-of-year event, at a nice banquet facility within Houston or surrounding. Past events were held at Vargo's and the Texas Safari Ranch and The Crowne Plaza Suites. Upon entry, a Christmas picture in front of a tall decorated tree is offered (and later mailed) before a visit to the hors d'oeurves table. Then a multi-course dinner is enjoyed, followed by entertainment, recently a good, hired DJ spinning tracks requested by members. The DJ plays a wide variety of songs, including favorites from the 50's-60's-70's. Couples dancing, line dancing, socializing, jokes, festive atmosphere…all help make the Christmas Party the highpoint of the year. All attendees participate in a drawing for many valuable prizes. Upwards of 70-80 members and guests have attended in the past. Central planning and reservations were handled by past president Israel Morales from 2006 - 2009, Brenda Moss and Estella Garcia in 2010, and Mary Gomez in 2011.
